2018 PLAAY Games LIVE Events

Here's information about our 2018 Live Events, this list will be updated during the year with separate pages added for each event. So check back often! All PLAAY Games Live Events are totally free, and no RSVP is required—but it always helps for planning purposes to get a tentative head count. SO, if you're thinking of attending something, please let us know! The e-mail address is

01.13.18, Milwaukee, WI: "Meet-Up in Milwaukee," at Rockheads Comics and Games, Kenosha, WI. This event was organized by local PLAAY Gamers Travis Jansen and Bob Hansen, and I was happy not to have to plan anything, haha! A Facebook Event page was created to provide information about this meet-up. You can read a recap of this wonderful event here!

03.31.18, Charlotte, NC: PLAAY Gamer Open Golf Tournament presented by HISTORY MAKER GOLF, at Your Local Game Store, 6908 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. Just like last year's PLAAY Masters event in Atlanta, this event will feature an 18-hole championship round played on Charlotte's Avian Wood course, and a "Skins Game" competition where you can win PLAAY money! We're also planning a "night before" event at the official event hotel (TBA), featuring RED WHITE & BLUE RACIN'!

07.13-15.18, Denver CO: PLAAY Dot CON, three days of PLAAY, Friday, July 13 through Sunday July 15 at the Hampton Inn and Suites, Lone Tree, CO. This event is now SOLD OUT. Our focus now is on making this an amazingly fun and memorable sports gaming get-together for every registrant, in anticipation of an even bigger, better con in 2019! Read MORE about PLAAY-dot-CON here.

09.15.18, Dallas, TX: Our 6th Annual HMB Fall Classic Pre-PLAAY! For the last five years, we've been gathering at local game stores from New Jersey to Seattle to pre-play the Fall Classic with HMB weeks before it happens in real-life. THIS year, we're meeting September 15th in the Dallas-Ft.Worth Metroplex, we hope to announce a venue shortly. Using the Instant Results chart and the annual Pro In-Season card set (a full set of cards based on three-quarters of a season's worth of stats), we quick-play the final month of the season and veer off into alternative reality with our own playoff field. Starting with the Wild Card play-in games, we take it all the way to the Fall Classic, which we play cooperatively on-site in a single day with staggered start times and a roster of PLAAY Gamer managers calling the shots. Sometimes our version of the championship showdown is eerily similar to what eventually happens, sometimes it provides an alternate scenario, but it's ALWAYS a great time for tabletop baseball fans!

09.29-30.18, Kansas City, MO: This is a new addition to the schedule, the annual "Recruits" convention. Read MORE about the Recruits Convention here. We'll be running sports game demos all weekend and at least ONE tournament (TBA). Basically, "Recruits" is an organization dedicated to preserving board game simulations for younger generations, which is a close match to the PLAAY games mission statement. Originally, their focus was on war games (hence the name, "recruits"), but in recent years they've expanded to sci-fi, battle and various resource management board games. This year, we're there to broaden the spectrum to include sports simulation board games. The event takes place at Lees Summit High School, in fact it's a fund-raiser for the school's board game club. It will be open to the public, there's a minimal admission charge (all proceeds to the high school game club). If you live in the area, hope you'll roll on over and join us!

11.10.18, Pittsburgh, PA: Our 4th Annual "Commissioner's Surprise" HOCKEY BLAST Tournament! It'll be tough to top 2017's edition, played in Hamilton, ON, but we'll have a lot of fun trying! Using the 2017-18 Pro Season cards for Hockey Blast, we'll once again parlay our totally random, totally crazy tournament format—where match-ups are literally drawn out of a hat—into an exciting, unpredictable, single-elimination "win to stay in" tournament in which ANY pro team has a chance to win all the marbles!
