“Do It Yourself” Dodgeball Teams!

The official release of "Dodgeball World Tour," last year's holiday PDF game, is set for August 1st. We'll be featuring the game at our convention, wrapping up the weekend with a gargantuan dodgeball tournament, with teams custom-crafted by convention goers using the download button below. Everyone chooses their team of seven players--six starters and a substitute--from the assortment sixteen of player cards included here. They'll then name each player and choose a name for their team. You can use celebrities, real-life athletes, family members, friends, historical figures--it's up to you!!

As a special twist, we're inviting everyone to "bling out" their team however they're able, and there'll be prizes awarded for the most creative work! Bring your finished team to the convention, our panel of judges will decide who gets the prize(s). Of course, blinged up or not, all of the teams will compete in the Saturday evening tournament!

There's also going to be a non-convention tournament bracket, where people who aren't able to attend the convention can participate. Choose your players, choose a name, then send us a PDF of your finished team--or take a photo of your cards on your phone and e-mail it to us--and we'll include your team in the "non-con" bracket, to be played before the convention.

As your considering who to choose for your team, please note that each player has a pre-set starting character type. This is different from the base game, where only a few players, or none, start out with an established type. The character type is indicated by a die symbol in the lower left corner of the card, with the number on the die corresponding with the character type.

Character types CAN change during the tournament, as called for by the game action (hence the lighter print weight for the die icon--you'll write over it, as needed). So, for example, player #68 starts out as a HERO (type 1)--but he could become a something different as the tournament unfolds.

Our goal was to make each player valuable, and we think you'll have some interesting decisions in choosing the seven players for your team. The players with the better ratings generally have the poorer character types, and vice versa. Do you choose your team based on abilities, or character, or a mix of both? Do you choose player #97--arguably the best player on the board, but one with a bad attitude--hoping he'll see the light and become a team player? Do you intentionally choose type 1 and 2 players in order to get the benefit of being the "good guy" team?

Similarly, the faster players (those with the higher COLLECT stars) typically have somewhat lower THROW and DODGE ratings. They're valuable in collecting extra balls, at the expense of being more vulnerable with balls thrown by/at them! You could, for example, build a very fast team which routinely wins an extra ball on rushes, and parlay that into extra shots and quick depletion of the opponent.

These and many other decisions will be yours to make as you create your own, personal dodgeball team with this "Do It Yourself Dodgeball" kit.

The PLAAY Gamer Dodgeball Tournament happens Saturday evening, July 30 in Denver at PLAAY-Dot-CON 2022. The non-con bracket will be conducted the week before, wrapping up by Saturday, July 23, with its champion (and perhaps a wild-card team chosen at random) entered into the in-person tournament. The deadline, then, for submitting your non-con tournament team will be Saturday, July 16th.
