(NOTE that this is a re-release of our limited-run holiday 2025 card offering!) Here’s a baseball throw-back we hope you’ll enjoy--in honor of it’s 30th anniversary, welcome back to the 1996 Pro Season with History Maker Baseball!
It was a big season for offense in ‘96, with nearly 5,000 home runs hit between the two leagues, a new record. Inter-league in-season play began the following season, so this was the final year for the two major leagues to play separate schedules. New York’s “Pinstripers,” led by Rookie of the Year Derek Jeter, earned their first world title since 1978, denying Atlanta’s repeat championship bid in an exciting six-game series.
Many thanks to PLAAY Gamer John Bergeron for coming up with the player ratings for this set. We’ve presented these cards with a distinctly “‘90s” look that we hope evokes memories of the era--now thirty years ago! There are 840 players rated with each team consisting of 30 total players split amongst 16 batters and 14 pitchers. All players will appear on the last team they represented in the 1996 season. Also included are cards for 81 umpires. Remember, they are league-specific, identified by either the red “A” or blue “N.” We’ve also included usage symbols for the umpires, similar to the players.
