Hard to believe, but true: it’s the 50th anniversary of the late, great World Football League! Well, maybe it wasn’t so great, but it certainly was a memorable league for anyone who was a football fan when it launched fifty summers ago. We thought it would be fun to re-imagine the league, 50 years later, in a Fury Football context.
The 2024 World Football League Remix set for Fury Football gives you twelve teams, reminiscent of the teams that took the field in the summer of '74. Unlike the original league, this "remix" version presents an evenly-balanced league of talented players, each team has legitimate hopes for championship contention. Run your own remix of the league, using a round-robin or double-elimination tournament format, or hold your own full season project! With Fury Football's fast game time (10-15 minutes per game), you can easily complete even a full-scale project in a reasonable time frame. Or, pick your favorite team and see how successfully you can steer it to a winning season!
In a nod to its historical roots, we've made this set a little less "furious" and a bit more traditional in appearance and execution than our earlier Fury Football teams. Players are platoon-specific for this set--offense players are wearing the colored jerseys, defense players are wearing the white jerseys. The players are positioned on the cards so that the offense and defense players are facing each other, which makes a nice visual of a football game. Each team has the same basic composition of players, 9 offense players and 8 defenders.
Each WFL remix team is also given one "boost" card. These cards are automatic when played--whatever is outlined on the card, happens. Some teams get boosts on offense, some on defense, some orchestrate favorable rulings from the refs. Teams get to use their "boost" only once per game, so you'll want to save it for an opportune moment!
The cards include representations of the actual World Football League team names and logos from the inaugural week of the 1974 season. It's an historical fair-use representation of a defunct league and its teams, a fifty year retrospective. This product is in no way affiliated with any existing team, league or other organization.
