Here's your chance to re-live the racing action of 2025 with this new Pro Season card set for PLAAY at the Races Tabletop Horse Racing Game! This set was researched and rated by PLAAY Gamer and thoroughbred racing fan Harvey Couch.
The 2025 American horse racing season was marked by some memorable in-race rallies. Foremost was 2025 Horse of the Year Sovereignty, who came from far behind to win the Kentucky Derby over race favorite Journalism. Sovereignty also won the Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes (by ten lengths!).
Another highlight was the Preakness Stakes, where Journalism seemed headed for certain defeat trailing by five-lengths and seemingly trapped in the pack at the eighth pole. But Journalism surged in epic fashion to win the race by half a length.
And, Forever Young became the first Japan-based horse to win the Longines Breeders' Cup in the 42 years the race has been run.
The set includes 192 horses and 96 jockeys. Horses are numbered 1 through 96, with two of each number. (This is to make the betting aspect of the game work properly, see the game rules.)
There are seven "international" horses included in the set (Forever Young is among them). The international horses participated in limited fashion over the course of the 2025 season but some made significant enough contributions that we felt they should be included in the set. Your card set also includes a list of 2025 racing events, 31 races in all. Various online resources can provide you with rosters of participating horses and their jockeys, if you wish to re-create actual line-ups at the starting gate.
