Because fishing conditions at Lake Winnipesaukee can change dramatically based on season, fishing location, time of day, and weather, we've necessarily narrowed the scope of your fishing adventure: as the postcard image suggests, you'll be fishing from the shore/dock or pier, summer, warm weather/water, mid-day or afternoon.
The NEAR cast represents warm, shallow water (0-30 feet) and the FAR cast represents a steep drop-off (30-70 feet), colder water with one FAR cast zone being deeper--80-180 feet, where the big ones are!
Lake Winnipesaukee is unique in that there's a predominance of smaller fish (represented by red cards) and not much "junk." Thus, there are no yellow ("unknown") cards in the Winnipesaukee fishing stock stack. The red category is largely perch (white and yellow) ranging in weight/point value from 1 to 3 pounds and using a red lure is recommended (though in many cases not required). The blue category represents mostly bass (large and small mouth) along with a few crappies and catfish, 2 to 5 pounds, somewhat more difficult to catch. The green category is for the cold water fish, mostly lake trout, but there's also a couple of surprise Atlantic Salmon as well as a Giant Cusk that could be hauled in for a big score (both of these species are normally active dusk-to-dawn). You’ll have to cast intentionally to reach them.
NOTE that some cards represent "schools" of fish. This reflects the characteristic of the lake where you can catch nothing for an hour then all of a sudden a school swims by and you catch multiple fish in a short period of time.
